1. Difference in appearance
The helical gear is a gear that is placed on the cylindrical gear in an offset position, while the spur gear is placed without an offset position.
2. The planetary support of the planetary carrier is different
The helical gear requires a double support of the planetary carrier, while the spur gear can be supported by either a double support or a single support
3. Different precision
The precision of the helical gear is higher than that of the spur gear. In terms of the structure of the planetary reducer, the planetary carrier of the helical planetary reducer must have a double support structure to support it, while the planetary carrier of the spur planetary reducer can be supported by either a single support or a double support. It's just that the single support of the spur gear is far inferior to the double support of the spur gear in terms of precision, noise and efficiency. Compared with the helical planetary reducer, the double-supported spur planetary reducer has a higher precision because the helical gear precision is higher than the spur gear precision.
4. Different noise
The main disadvantage of the spur planetary reducer is that they will vibrate. Whether due to design, manufacturing or deformation, some changes in the involute shape may occur along the entire tooth surface at the same time. This will result in a regular, one-per-tooth excitation, which is often very strong. The resulting vibration causes both a large load on the gear and noise. Therefore, spur gears are noisier than helical gears.
5. Spur gears It is difficult and uneconomical to manufacture and assemble a large number of thin spur gears, so they are made into one-piece gears with teeth along the helical line;
6. Helical gears are not like spur gears, which will cause undesirable axial forces. But the benefits in terms of vibration and strength far outweigh the disadvantages caused by axial thrust and slightly increased manufacturing costs. Therefore, helical gears are selected instead of spur gears in reducer manufacturing.
