How does a reducer work?

1. A reducer is an independent component consisting of a gear drive, worm drive, or gear-worm drive enclosed in a rigid housing. It is commonly used as a reduction transmission device between a prime mover and a working machine. It matches speed and transmits torque between the prime mover and the working machine or actuator, and is widely used in modern machinery.

2. Reducers come in many varieties, with different types tailored to different equipment and applications. Based on transmission type, they can be categorized as gear reducers, worm reducers, and planetary gear reducers. These types of reducers are commonly used in mechanical equipment. For example, the ICAN series 57 planetary reduction stepper motor is manufactured using high-quality 0.35mm silicon steel sheets and rare earth magnets. It has a small air gap, high torque, strong anti-resonance characteristics, and low heat generation. It is commonly used in packaging equipment.

3. Reducers are relatively precise machines designed to reduce speed and increase torque.

Common Gearbox Failures: Wear of the gearbox bearing housing, including wear of the housing bearing box, the housing bore bearing housing, and the gearbox bearing housing; wear of the gearbox gear shaft diameter, primarily at the shaft head and keyway; wear of the gearbox drive shaft bearing seat; and leakage on the gearbox mating surfaces.


A geared motor utilizes the conventional operating principles of an electric motor. By adjusting the reducer ratio and changing the speed and torque of the power unit, it converts high-power, high-speed raw power into low-speed, low-power mechanical energy to meet specific operating load requirements. It typically consists of a motor and a reducer. To fully utilize the performance of the gearbox, the power unit in the geared motor must meet certain operating conditions, such as high inner ring efficiency, good reliability, simple structure, and low noise.


The principle of a geared motor is as follows: The motor supplies power to the outer winding via two pole-changing windings, generating electromagnetic torque. Due to the internal reducer, the power unit's speed is reduced, thereby increasing its output torque. When the power unit's electromagnetic torque drives the rotating components of the motor, the motor's output power is converted into the required mechanical output energy to meet operational requirements.
